A permit answer depends on the property, the full scope of work and the building department or other agency with legal jurisdiction. We organize those moving parts so a homeowner can prepare before contacting the department or hiring a contractor.

HomeRulebook is an independent informational service. It is not a government agency, law firm, engineering practice or contractor-licensing board. A guide is not proof that a property is inside a city boundary and is not approval to begin work.

04 · Current evidence boundary

410 jurisdictions, 20 project types and 8050 resolved scope routes.

Census place and county geography matching is available. 96 combinations have detailed project-specific cited guides; the other 7954 have a reviewed official route inside the city hub. 150 combinations remain unpublished research, and authority-only guide URLs redirect to consolidated city entries instead of existing as thin noindex pages.

0 parcel boundaries are independently verified. A Census geography match is not a survey, parcel record or guarantee that no special district, historic overlay, floodplain, utility territory or project-specific agency applies.

05 · Responsibility

Sources and review dates are public; personal attribution waits for verified identity data.

Each cited guide names its official sources and review date. HomeRulebook publishes a named responsible editor only after the owner supplies and approves a real identity and review date. No person, license, credential or review history is invented for trust signals.

Deeper verification before wider expansion.

The next product layer adds versioned evidence, clearer change history and human-reviewed Verified Permit Briefs. New local pages are published only when they can be supported accurately and remain useful beyond a search keyword.
